Greetings, Lads, Well, since the CCS forums have been down for the last three days, I have had some time to do a little cleaning in our upstairs bedroom, which is also my "stove room". Here are a few photos of as many stoves as I could cram onto the shelves I built to house them!!! I still have many more stoves, downstairs in the Hobbit Hole, and in a few other places. But, it's fun to see so many of them out and about, FINALLY! This first photo is of the tall shelf. I built this set of shelves back in the late 1980's, when it was apparent that I was actually "collecting" stoves, as well as also using them. I wanted to be able to look at them everyday, hence, the shelves. The second photo is of the short, long shelve, with stoves somewhat divided into brands. Not perfectly, mind you, but fun, nonetheless! This second set of shelves, I built in the early 1990's, because my first shelves were filled to the max, and I needed more room for stoves! Finally, what's left over of the stoves that were up in the stove room, which I couldn't squeeze onto the shelves. As much as I love seeing lots of these stoves out for enjoyment, it would really be nice to have ALL of them out!!! There are many more, and no room, really, to show them. I guess I need to get back out and build some more shelves, and fill the walls with more stove!! Just getting the ones you can see out, was really fun, and it brought back many memories of the years I've enjoyed using many of my stoves!! Thanks for checking them out, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Great pics Doc I am going to print them off, and the next time Angela moans, I can point at the pictures and say "Could be worse dear"
Rik If you are going to say 'it could be worse' you will have to print off one of these from Doc. https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/2308 Simes
Great Pics Doc There's probably a Classic Collectors Shelves site somewhere, I'm sure they'd be interested in them as well ! A fine idea Rik I find you need as many of these arguments mustered in advance of the "haven't you got enough already ?" comments ! Having said that I was clearing out one of my old office recliner chairs and it didn't get to the tip, just to the kitchen - eventually the Missus said why don't you take it out to the garage and then you can fettle your stoves in comfort ! Top gal, no sooner said than done To be honest the idea of sitting down to fettle stoves had never really occured to me, but it's out there now ready for when I have time to have a good session ! Keith
Hi Mark, I'l probably use the samet trick. I am trying to keep the collection as little as it may be used regulary. By some reason I have trouble reaching this goal. The one in the woodenbox? I could not stop looking at it, what is it, is the box orginal? Good Bless! Dsk
I'll these pix to the little woman the next time she moans about me buying stuff. What a wonderful collection! I think I may have a couple absent, or I missed them, from the pix, rather crude but effective alcohol burners that are little more than a stamped tin with a very basic 1 speed meths burner in the bottom. Once popular with scouts and the like here for their 100% reliability and very low cost, I have 3 in slightly different configerations, I'll post pix soon.
God Doc! what a great collection ! It is a shame you live so far away I would love to come over and play. It was also nice to see a couple of Coleman's in there. I wish I had stock in the Brasso company. Looks like some fine woodworking too. Very pretty indeed. Dan
Good Evening, Gentlemen, Many thanks for the kind words! Yeah, if showing your Sweeties a couple of pics of my stuff will cut you some slack, I say, "Go for it"!! You can also tell them, quite honestly, that Sweet Bride doesn't mind, even one tiny bit, that I have so many stoves!! She actually thinks it's rather neat, as long as I keep them so.... "neat", that is. Unfortunately, most of the time, my stuff is a little less then neatly presented. So, she's glad that I finally got off the dime and filled the shelves, instead of just having the stoves laying here, there, and everywhere!! I love having lots of stoves out, so I can look at them, which I do many times each day. One day, I'll have all the stoves divided up by brand, but for now, I'm just happy to have many of them out and about. Mike, I have quite a few simple Meths stoves, but just don't have room to show them. On the tall shelves, second shelf up from the bottom, bracketing the Optimus 48, and it's round, blue tin, you can see two of them. These are two Lux stoves, compliments of Stove Brother Ross! One day, I'll be setup to have ALL of my stoves out on display. But, until that time comes, the ones I have out will just "have to do"!! Dan, any time you think you might be in the area, please give me a shout in advance, and we'll make a plan for you to come up and spend a night, or two. We can play with stoves until we just can't stand it!! (Yeah, like THAT would ever happen!!) We can even camp in the forest behind the house, if you only have a little time. If you have a little more time, we'll head over to the other side of the Pass, grab Dwight, and have a "real" campout. By the way, I have several more Coleman stoves, but no room to show them. Ok, now that I've laid mine out there, how about some photos of YOUR stoves, Guys??!! I'd love to see the way you display them, and how you have them arranged!! The displays I've seen, from Ross, and a few others, are really great, and I love seeing them!! I will look forward to seeing what stoves you've all got, and how you show them off!! By the way, one of our members, from whom we've not heard in a while, used to have four, or five stoves, only, on display. The way he did it, was outstanding, and I still remember thinking how cool they looked, sitting side by side, on his mantle! So, let's see them, Guys, small and large, group stove photos is the word of the day! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
I've book marked this page and the very next time her indoors has a bit of a moan I'll do the same. First class collection Doc And First class 'get out' clause for most of us
Great job Dock. Now I can see space for a shelf on the right of the tall shelves in the first picture. Also room for a shelf above the window to the left. In the 2nd picture a shelf just below the window so you can see your stoves from the other room or out side. A few nails bent to hang things from the ceiling the tall visitors will bump their heads. Well done Dock. whats that lantern is it an Optimus or Radius?
Morning, Gents, The lantern in the photo is an Optimus 930. I bought it in absolutely filthy condition, and though it's all clean now, I've not yet fired it up. It needs a new cleaning needle, but I do have some .012" wire that seems to work OK. My plan is to add more shelves, as time permits, and to eventually have ALL my stoves out, so that I can enjoy them. At that time, I can also get an accurate count of exactly how many stoves I own! I don't really know, anymore.... I used to keep a list of them all, and added each stove as I came by it. But it's been years since I've done that, and since then, I've given away, traded, and bought many, many stoves!! So, I really have NO idea how many stoves actually live here with us! Someday, I'll count them, but until then, I just enjoy the hell out of looking at them and playing with them!! DSK asked about the stove in the wooden box. It's a SVEA #106, and it's one of the stoves I found while up in Alaska, last September. It was the very last stove I found, and I got it in that very same store which had already yielded up so many stoves on that trip! Sketch, who lives in Anchorage, has also found some neat stoves in that same store! As I told DSK, in a PM, I think I paid less then $30 for that one, including it's tools, spirit bottle, and everything. I think that some previous owner made the wooden box, and if so, he did a wonderful job of it. Everything has it's own place, with spots cut out for stove feet and such. But, I could be wrong. I don't know much about original wooden stove boxes. The only stove I own, for which I'm pretty sure the wooden crate is original to the stove, is my Optimus #3. It came with a wooden shipping crate that has Optimus straps attached to it. Take care, my Friends, and Merry Christmas to you all! God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hi Mark What a great display of stoves and what great pictures. I must give some thought to displaying some of my stoves at home. Most of the year they are all in cardboard boxes in a big plie in my garage.
Hey, Trevor, Thank you, Sir! I have been in the same boat as are you, for quite a few years. It is a true pleasure to finally get the stoves out of their boxes, wake them up, and put them on display! I cannot recommend it any higher. You should definitely do it, and I will look forward to seeing your photos and your display!! One bad thing about open shelves is the dust that they tend to gather. I remember that one of our mates (was it Dan?) bought some fine display cabinets, completely enclosed with glass. THAT is a fine idea, and one that is worth exploring. But, you'd really have to have some huge cabinets to display lots of stoves. Great idea, though!! Good luck on getting your own display going, Shag! I'll eagerly await the resulting photos! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
Hi Doc Mark Nice pictures of a great collection. I dont have nearly as many stoves as you Doc, but I like to have them around me. On my office at work, I have a small display on top of a book shelf. Here it is: Every good wishes to you all!
Nice display Arne ! You must have a very understanding lady to allow you to bring a collection of stoves, and a bracket fungus indoors ! Regards Keith
Yes I have a very understanding lady! But I do not have this display at home, it is in my office at the Univercity College. The rest of my stoves I have in the basement at home. The two bracket fungi on the picture are not the only ones I have brought indoors, I have eleven more on the walls of my office. I think they are cool! 8)
Good Morning, Arne, Very nice, indeed!!! I like the inclusion of the fungus, as well. It adds something neat to the display. The cool thing is, that you don't have to show a ton of stoves for a display to be interesting and fun, just as you have proved here!! What is the stove right next to the stump? It has an interesting burner head, and I've not seen another one like it. Are the other two, Optimus 00 stoves? That is one of my favorite stoves, and that model was my very first kero stove. Outstanding, Arne, and great that you get to look at your stoves while at work, too!! Love the Primus poster, by the way. Thanks, very much, for sharing this with us! Take care, Merry Christmas, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
The stove right next to the stump is a Høvik Standard with a special silent burner. I have two more stoves with the same type of burner, a nicle plated Radius 21 and an Optimus 1 or 5 (don't remember right now). The stove to the far right is an Optimus 00 and the one next to it is a Primus 210 made by Høvik. You can see the tins behind the stoves. The one on the stump is a repainted old Optimus 111.
Hi Arne Is it possible to have a close-up photograph of your H?vik Standard with special silent burner?
