Hello, in these days I became the proud owner of a very rare Svea stove, the model 44. This is the first time we can see it complete and in action (at least me)… I am aware of another incomplete 44 that 1 year ago has been sold on Tradera, then I have no information about another. For this reason the friend @multi-cho called the 44 “the stove of legends” also because, as we will see later, also on the catalogs it’s never been illustrated… his roarer brother 40 was the only one displayed by an illustration. He delighted us of an image of a 44, installing the snake 804 burner on a 40… the burner was belonging to his no 4. I also have to thank you my little brother @LiXing to have found this stove and to have given to me the opportunity to acquire it. This beauty surely enters in the top 10 of my collection. Going back on the stove, it’s incredibly complete, all the accessories are present and as well the often missing bits of the 804 burner were all there. The stove didn’t require much work, a new leather cup made by the magic hands of @sefaudi and the usual seals replaced. The burner required more attention… it was completely blocked by carbon… many baths in the ultrasonic washer after a session of heat and compressed air were required… I clearly took the chance to photograph the stove before the burning test. Well, now some space to the stove, enjoy! View attachment 315913 Nicola
Oh, I have forgotten to thank also my mentor and master friend Alexander Baranov @gideon for the recipe to clean at best the burners with the ultrasonic cleaner… 80C with 5/10% citric acid solution, sessions of 30 minutes to repeat untill result. Thanks Alex Nicola
thank you @Nicola Francesco Elia for your kind words, wish you more stoves and lanterns like that! this one is excellent!
My god @Nicola Francesco Elia what a stove that is ! The engraving is outstanding totally jealous !How do you find them?
@nmp thanks Nick! Well, to find these treasures you need friends, connections, time to research, ubiquity, luck, some money, more friends and more luck Nicola
Well, now this has me stumped.... This stove is so beautiful that there are no words to describe it.... You never cease to amaze. Magnificent!!!
Same as on the roarer burner version, the Svea No.40, which crop up from time to time. The ‘44’ in such condition and with its tin and accessories is exceptional. Emblazoned with the legend ‘The Best Stove in the World’ (‘King of Stoves’ on later Sveas). Not far short of the mark - probably - as the Heineken slogan used to claim. John
Thanks John! @presscall I would say the engravings on Svea are the best on every model, that’s why we love them! To note the different positioning of the reserve cap on 44 and 40… they moved it away from the main engravings as a later update? Nicola
I see what you mean. Something to ponder. Maybe not date related but a distinguishing model characteristic?
@A A C thanks! @presscall well not properly age related, but evolution of the model… that could have happened also the same week during production… like why are we interfering with the Svea name and model number when we can just move the cap upper on the tank? Or maybe models developed differently… Simple like that. Nicola
What a wonderful stove you have there. I've never seen burner tubes that bend around like that. The engraving on the tank is exceptional as well. You've got a real treasure there. Ben
@z1ulike thanks Ben! Well, those are the famous 804/805 Svea burners… can be found on models 4/5/14/15 etc… Nicola
Bellissima! I have been a big Svea fan since c. 1970. I have been unaware of this series. Mostly concerned with 123s. I am fascinated by the Campus 3, but the pre-123 history of the firm, is a subject I happily subscribe to.
@CW @hikerduane thanks! @SveaSizzler the first Svea stoves are incredible, like most of the earliest examples. Of course I have most of the later stoves as well, but for me the early models are just magic (collection wise). Nicola
