Does anyone have any recent experience shipping a stove to Canada. In my case Calgary AB. The basic ground shipping rates aren't that bad, but I don't want the receiver to get stuck with unforeseen duties. Any advice would be helpful, thanks Mike.
You can mark it as "Gift - value under $20US". Many folks have someone with a address in the US, sent it to them and they take it over. I would think you're close enough to drive across and mail it from Windsor, solve all the problems, eh? Murph
Whatever you do, do NOT use "global shipping program". They try to get away with charging so-called "duty" on stuff that is duty-free! I've had similar bad experiance with Fedex, too.
@Murph Marking as 'Gift' is good but Canada Customs can [and sometimes do] use the item's value in Canada for duty calculations. PS: I live in Canada and have close relatives working for the federal gov't.
All said, I've never had a problem with customs myself. Whether buying from US or China or even (quite a while ago) from UK.
